Updates

Things are coming along on the book.  I was contacted by WestBowPress after sending an inquire about their self-publishing option.  Looks to be promising.  The person who called was very spiritual and pleasant to talk to.

Few other things

1) I setup a twitter account @52pickupco (even have 2 followers lol)

2) Setup a Facebook page to consume the tweets from Twitter, pretty easy

3) Setup a newsletter as a way to send out to people once the book is available

4) Found a cover art page Iím inquiring about.  The price is reasonable and would make a great logo I think, Iíve asked if they could color it blue.

God has been in this entire process and working through the process.   Stay tuned.

What to do regarding publishing

Iíve been starting to investigate (and pray) for what to do with the 52pickup book once itís done being reviewed.  Itís in my nature to always look ahead.  Iím typing this as a reference.  There are a few ďself-publishersĒ out there. Here are a few.

Keep on Praying!

A random devotional

First off, I want to thank the Holy Spirit for prompting me to write this and Jesus for being my Lord and savior. I was driving to work one morning and had a suggestion about writing devotionals. I thought it was a passing thought and didnít think much of it. Then one morning, I literally woke up and felt a sense of urgency to get a devotional written. On occasion, Iíll be talking with God and mention, if you want me to do something, please make it obvious. This is such an occasion where I feel the strong desire to share how accepting Jesus as my savior changed my life

I get a daily email from Chuck Swindoll from Insight for today (www.insight.org) . He sends an email 6 days a week with very enriching messages. On a side note, God has really touched this man with the Gift to share the word. I strongly suggest people subscribe to some type of medium that shares the word. My profession has me using email often; I found the daily emails to be effective. This might not work for everyone. If you arenít sure, you should pray for God to show you a method that does have you exposed to the word daily.

I donít recall where I read this, but you should be prepared at all times to share your testimony on a moments notice. That got me thinking, what if someone asked me? What would I say? Here are three reasons.

  • Heavenly Peace
  • Perspective
  • Attitude

Can you list reasons why? Here they are.

1) Heavenly Peace. It helped change me inside out and bring inner peace. There is a song on the radio that talks about peace. Well, Iím sure there are many songs, but this particular one mentions how accepting Jesus will bring heavenly peace. Like in Matthew 11:28-30

ď28(Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

29“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and )YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.

30“For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Sounds pretty good eh? When life has you down and the news continually preaches fear. Iím all for looking for a better way. I think this particular passage sums things up pretty clearly. PS: Youíll find the bible contains many Ďclearí messages.

2) Perspective – Sometimes referred to as ĎWorld Viewí. Pastor Joel had a series of sermons on having a Christen World view. After reading the One Year Bible, I realized eternity is a long time and I wanted to be with Jesus. In
Matthew 25:33:
ďHe will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left.Ē.
Any person with a bit of common sense would go; I want to be a sheep!

3) Attitude Ė Probably the most challenging is adjusting my attitude. Pride pretty much gets in the way of everything. In my younger years, I was known not to have the most positive attitude. If a particular activity wouldnít go my way, I made sure to make things hard on those who were in authority. This could be coaches, teachers or just a person in-charge. I recently printed off a saying Chuck Swindoll did a few years ago. Here is a link to http://www.bigeye.com/attitude.htm that contains the say. I suggest you print this poem off, put in a high-traffic area so it reminds you often. I put a copy in my cube. When things become stressful, I glance over and this reminds me to refresh my attitude. My favorite saying in Chuckís attitude poem is ďI am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.Ē

When you accept Christ Jesus as your savior, the Holy Spirit moves in and help you transform your life. All I know, if a person who is an unbeliever or someone Ďwatching meí waiting for the ĎJesus fadí to go away. I doubt the three items I listed will be covered in-depth when discussing how accepting Jesus changed my life. That is why I like about being able to list three powerful reasons. If someone asks me Ďwhyí, I can elaborate. Be prepared. Practice, take notes, be ready for when the opportunity arrives!

God Bless,

Steve Schofield

And so it is off to the reviewers

Iíve finished fixing the errors on the Introduction!  Another God story for another day happened today, an answered prayer if we should continue on with the book.  God gave a resounding YES!  Itís kind of surreal to think one day this book might get published, people read it and hopefully get inspired.  It has to make it through the review process, which Iíve tried to do my best.  2/3ís of the rest are Godís words, so hopefully itís easy to review.  Stay tuned for more information as we progress through the publishing process. We could use a prayer or three what to do next as far as the publishing process.

God Bless,

Steve

Official editing has begun on Introduction

Iíve had a couple people review with one person being an English teacher.   I Ďm glad Word doesnít use Red lines like they used in the old days.  I was impressed the initial review had 127 comments!   I was like ďYES!Ē  this person knows what they are doing.    I have one more section, which is 4 pages, is my story and testimony and this portion is done.  When I was in high school, Iím sure my response would have been different, but Iím so glad for people who have great passion for their work, and arenít afraid to help people out!  Praise God for this persons talents.

Stay tuned!

Continuing to edit!

Christmas 2011 is just around the corner, 7 days to go, time to start shopping.  How about you, are you done?  The editing process continues.  Iíve made it through the Introduction and 4 sections with my initial proofread, authoring.  I started to create the table of contents and amazes me the variety of topics covered, I also took an inventory and of this blog post, there are 9 extra stories I could include.  Iím not sure what to do with them, I might include a couple three in the last section of the book, think of it as the trailer, every truck has to haul something, or something the truck bed.  Weíll see.  In the Word document, there are 123 pages.  Iíll be curious when the person who does the final edit / review what their thoughts are.  Iím sure theyíll really give it the work over, which is good.  Iím going to continue to tinker with it, proofread and pray for an editor / publisher or how that this thing will get published to the world!

Oh on a side note, Tim Tebowís team lost after winning 6 in a row.  His team had 3 or 4 fumbles, penalties at the wrong time.  The New England Patriots played very well and deserved to win.  My Lions (yes a Lions fan) won on a last 2 minute drive!  For those who have no interest in American football, this probably doesnít make any sense.

Until later

Steve

Section 3 finished up

This weekend my hope is to get the 3rd and 4th section initial review done, before handing over to reviewers.   The last story in this section is by far in a way the most inspirational, heavenly feeling Iíve had.  The third section had some of the first stories I wrote and where inspiring to re-read them.  I hope to hear from the reviewers soon and get moved on to the next step, the publishing!  Iíve been praying for guidance on how to publish this book, I know the doors will be opened when they need to be, this entire project has been like that.

This last week lots of Tebow news has been played on ESPN.  Like anything, the media has a tendency to over analyze something, although the Tebow stuff is all media driven, and nothing from Tim himself.  I heard a comment on the radio itís cool to be a Christian now!  Smile  Keep Tebowing!

God Bless,

Steve

And it continues..

Iíve submitted the first section for review, hoping all goes well and looking forward to the feedback.  Iíve been lucky to have a person who will review that has been a English teacher for several years.  Iím a little scared a lot of text will come back Red.   I remember my papers in high school, I think mine alone used an entire Red  pen. Smile

Iíve finished putting all 52 stories / poems in the document.  Iím sure this is just a rough draft although formatting text isnít the funniest part of writing.  I also inquired getting a hold of a publisher.  The goal of this book is to have both eBook and printed version.  I have no idea how this part of the project will turn out, God Iím sure already has an answer, based on how other things went, Iíll find out when I need to, which Iím fine with doing.

Here is a story I wrote from a friend who was praying!  Enjoy, Iím wondering if this should go in the book.

Title:
Attacked

Scripture:
James 1:26, Matthew 11:30

Story behind the Story
One Sunday at GCC, a video was played introducing a new ministry called People Restore.  It was presented by a man who mentioned the ministry was to help people restore their faith back to Jesus.  There was “hiccups, hurts and hangups”.  Every person who walks with Jesus has these and to varying degrees, can interfere in their life.  The mission was to take back others who have been distracted.  I was moved and seemed to connect with the key people in the ministry.  I mentioned the stories God has blessed me with and seemed to be a place to share with others.  I’m not certain the outcome or how involved I will be personally, it seems like a next step and I wanted to be involved.  We were at a bible study and the same person who introduced the ministry, asked for prayer mentioning they were under attack since announcing the ministry.  God laid on my heart the word “Attacked” and the first sentence / phrase used in this story.  We also had just studied the scripture in our small group.

Story

Have you ever felt like every time you turn around? There is something seemly in your way.  No matter how much you prepare. No matter how much you plan. Something always seems to get in the way. Every obstacle appears to get larger and more difficult, It’s like a person is having fun watching you stumble. Roadblocks are put up everywhere. You work through one really hard roadblock, another pothole comes along out of no where. Finally, things appear to have calmed down and another larger pothole appears suddenly. After a few battles that appear to impact the overall plan. Anxiety, Worry and uncertainty rule the day. It seems the harder you work, the harder the task at hand becomes. Nothing is easy although the task is rewarding. It requires a lot of mental heavy lifting. Up until this point, you have kept it contained and the journey has been great.  Then you widen the effort to include many others.  The battles become larger and more difficult.  You’ve entered the arena of many thousands now. The goal is no longer contained, the idea becomes shared with others. The attacks are more wide spread impacting many others Who are engaged in the battle. The enemy has drawn the battle lines. The efforts are to restore souls. The efforts are to repair hearts and turn them back north, North to God, his son Jesus and Holy Spirit. The enemy has made it clear every soul will be a battle. Nothing will be easy, Nothing will be calm. There will be bumps, potholes and obstacles along the way. Not a moments rest, Not a moments peace. Scripture tells us to endure the journey. Take refuge in the Son for his yoke is light. There will be peaks and valleys, endure everyday with hope provided from above. Keep it simple, take care of orphans and widows, do not become part of this world. An orphan can be a child. It can be an middle aged person struggle with addiction or even an older person lost in their way. Each orphan has their own unique story.  God wants all of his “children” to know he loves them and wants to see them come to him with their hearts open. God will restore hope from their hurts, God will help overcome their habits and even when we have hang-ups from time to time, he’ll be there loving us unconditionally. The good book says One day you will hang with him in his house, forever. What a comforting feeling knowing we are loved by such a great creator. This single hope helps us endure the journey filled with Hurts, Hiccups and Hangups.

First section Truck Frame including 13 devotionals complete

Iím excited to finish up section 1 of 4, this includes the first 13 stories / poems.  There was one story called SHARP.  It was relating to the online comments I see that people post.  There is very little compassion and at the first chance, people are criticizing other posters and the author.  Anywho, when I tried to incorporate the story as one of the 13, it just wouldnít come together, so I removed it!  I was getting a prompt, remove it, the words are just not coming together, wonít you listen!  (aka I believe the Holy Spirit telling me to listen).  Sometimes it takes a few tries of beating my head against the wall (as they say) before I learn my lesson.

One of the themes of the book there are 4 sections (13 devotionals).  In between, Iím trying to articulate something about building a Truck related to the story.  I donít get a sense how to document into words what should go there.  Guess off to ask for assistance (prayer) on that section, everything else on this book is God Inspired, might as well ask for this, not sure I have so far. Smile

God Bless,

Steve
