Pondering Thought of the Week : Tebow – dedicated to Tim Tebow

It’s real fun to watch how frustrated the media is and how most people are taken back to Tim Tebow.   Thought I would pass along a story describing Tebow in yet another way, a Poem comparing his story to Exodus 7-12.  The miracles are one thing, the main point is how Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, much like the media and analysts today.  One day God will close the door, who knows when that is, for now I’m on Tebow’s side.

Title:
Tebow

Scripture:
Exodus 7-12

Story Behind the Story
Tim Tebow during his second year playing for the Denver Broncos, an NFL team playing American football, were 1-4 (1 win 4 losses). Tim was made a starter and as of this writing won 7 games in a row. The passage of scripture that comes to mind was how Pharaoh’s heart was hardened when the Israelites tried to leave Egypt.  The more miracles God performed through Moses, the harder Pharaoh’s heart became.  This illustration is similar to the worlds reaction to Tebow over the last couple weeks.  At first, Tebow didn’t have the right throwing motion, all he could do was run.   He was part of a few come from behind wins, this baffled the “so called experts”.  As he continued to win, the critics started saying “they don’t know where it comes from”.  I’m screaming at the TV, it’s Jesus silly!  He has an upcoming game against one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and one of the best all time, Tom Brady.  I don’t know how the story goes, but I’m passing this along to document what is on my heart.

Poem
There was once a person named Tebow
This was his last name

Then one day reading an article
Tebow became a verb to describe something

The NCAA prohibits players from showing scripture on eye patches
It is commonly referred to as the “Tebow Rule”

So there you have it, Tebow is a verb
It describes things

Described in Gods word
Was an event where his chosen people were in bondage

They cried out for his help
God answered with a messenger, his name was Moses

When Moses approached the Pharaoh
To ask for him to release his people

Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go
God knew this already and had a few tricks up his sleeve

They are called the 10 Plagues
One miracle after another

Pharaoh at first could explain some of the miracles and his magicians could do them also
As time went on, he couldn’t explain them all

Much like Tebow has done, performed a few miracles
With the help of others, this time it’s the Defense, Special Teams and coaches

The reaction of the media, analysts and critics
At first, they say Tebow couldn’t do this or that

Moses cried to God he couldn’t talk to Pharaoh
So after a while, God answered with having Aaron speak on behalf of Moses

Even though God said all Moses had to do was show up
God would give him the right words to say

During this whole situation with Tebow
He has remained humble and let his play speak for itself

Tebow has given credit to everyone else for his accomplishments
Which the good book says all good things come from God

Tebow knows this and says accordingly
His actions baffles the media and almost everyone else around

In the end, after 10 miracles, Pharaoh gave in and let Moses and his people go
Tebow’s story isn’t as dramatic as Moses or life changing

Tebow’s is just a football game
In a few years, only a few will remember the magic

Unlike Moses and his story,
We don’t know the end to Tebow’s story

We will have to wait and see
God has shown his presence every step of the way

I’m sure the ending will have more people believing
Some will remain skeptical

I for one see the comparison
God has his hand in both stories and his “will” will be done!

God Bless

Pondering Thought of the Week : A hovering bird poem

Title:The hovering bird

A flying bird hovering is so beautiful
It hovers over the water, floating in the air

Looking for prey, searching, watching ever so closely
If the prey is not in one spot, it could be in another

The bird moves slightly to the right, and waits
Nothing is discovered in this spot

The bird moves to the left slightly
Floating like he has in other spots, just waiting

No matter where he hovers, he is just floating, ever so patiently, just waiting
All of a sudden, the hovering bird dives straight down into the water

The path he takes is so straight
One could almost draw a straightline from his path

When the bird amerges, it has the prey in its mouth
The prey is as good as done

The bird that was once hovering so silently
Became the predator, seeking it’s prey in an elegant way

Sin has this appeal
It hovers, it’s patient

If it doesn’t get you one way, it tries another way
It gracefully moves a bit, hovering above searching for another way to strike

It’s waiting to strike it’s victim
Making it as good as done

The beautiful thing, our savior Christ Jesus, who started hovering above in heaven
Came down from Heaven to save a wretch like me

Jesus fasted 40 days and nights, then was tempted
The sin tried to strike him down, sin tried from various angles 3 times

Jesus was stronger than sin
He resisted although he was tempted

He was above sin, his mission was to conquer sin for all time, for all believers
He started his ministry at the top of a hill

He hovered on earth, patiently for 30 years
All of sudden, came down to the valley to preach the good news to everyone

His words were striking for the time he walked on earth
They are striking until the present day

Unlike the bird of prey or sin, his strike is not death, but everlasting life
His words offer comfort, saving us from sin trying to do us in

Thank you Jesus for coming down from the top of the hill
To offer hope, saving us like no one else can.

Story Behind The story
This was inspired by waking up the first night by the Sea of Galilee watching a hovering bird hunt for fish next to the sea (lake).  I read Matthew 5 and was inspired to get up and take pictures of the city at the top of the hill.  After I was done taking pictures, I came back to the room to get ready and the analogy came to mind.

Pondering Thought of the Week : Light poem

I was inspired a few days ago to write a new poem for a devotional book I’m writing.  The title of the poem was called Light.  After hearing about the tragedies in Connecticut and China, my heart goes out to the families and individuals dealing with the tragedy in Connecticut and China.  We are all God’s creation.  If you are reading this, here is the prayer God laid on my heart, I hope it helps provide comfort.

Title:
Light

Scripture:
John 8:12

Poem

In the beginning, there was nothing
A void, absence of anything

3 Then God said, (NASB) “Let there be light”;
and there was light.

4 God saw that the light was good;
and God separated the light from the darkness.

5 God called the light day, and the darkness
He called night. And there was evening
and there was morning, one day.

Light highlights all of creation
Gods great handy work

Darkness is the opposite
Darkness is a void, nothing

You can’t explain it
People just know the difference

One moment you see clearly
The next moment, you can’t see

In a blink, Light returns
Darkness is no longer present

Darkness can remain in the shadows
Only because Light allows it

People have free will
They can chose their own path

One leads to Light
The other leads to darkness

In a broken world, things happen
They can’t be explained

Each of us are God’s owns Lights of the world
Created to shine in his image

Some of the Lights shine for a while
Some not very long

When someone’s Light goes before their time
It leaves a void, a darkness in our heart

We yearn for them, much like the light
God, we pray for those who Light goes before they should

We pray for those left behind
Trying to find their Light again, amongst the darkness

Jesus, thank you for being the Light of the world
On this side of heaven, there is plenty of darkness

One day, we’ll just see the Light
Our Father’s Light shining for all eternity

Until then, we hold out hope
The Light of the world will return one day!

Amen!

God bless,

Steve

Pondering Thought of the Week : Towards Home

Here is a story that was laid on my heart. I was reading “The Road Home” by Denise Jackson, it was an inspiring book my wife got me for Christmas (2011).  The words “Towards home” came to mind and I had to write this little story.  Here husband wrote a song one night after 9/11 happened.  The words literally came to his heart.  Enjoy. Smile

Title:
Towards Home

Story behind the story:
This poem is inspired by reading “The Road Home” by Denise Jackson.  A book my wife got me for Christmas.  Denise explained in the book her life was built around as her husband as the foundation of her life instead of Jesus.  God assisted in the process of helping Denise and Alan to focus their hearts where it needed to be, towards God’s home.  As I was reading the book, the title “Towards Home” was laid on my heart.

Additionally, I have been thinking of how life will be after my sons grow up.  It almost brings me to tears just thinking of the moment where the house is empty and there will be time to reflect.  Gods very present is overwhelming and can take someone who is terse, impatient and lack of compassion and use it for his Glory.

Other things that helped inspire was people we’ve known in the past split up.  After a brief conversation, they want to reconcile yet don’t know how.  My heart goes out to them and I have this deep desire to want to help and I know I can’t force my will on them. I want everyone to point their hearts Towards home, God’s home…

Poem

Sitting in a rocking chair
Reading a story of brokenness and loss

On the surface, everything was perfect
Money, Fame, a nice home and marriage

The world was full of envy
The world was full of praise

Underneath it all was lots of brokenness
Under the covers was insecurity, shame and resentment

There was unfaithfulness, broken promises
The eye wasn’t on the prize

It was on other earthly things
One day the mirror shattered

All the “so-called” perfection was exposed
Nothing was perfect and they were left standing feeling empty

In one brief moment God had rebuked everything
You were standing there with nothing of value

There was nothing in the so called perfect life
God wanted or needed from you

God was showing his perfect love
The first step towards coming home

His perfect love wants our hearts first
Everything else will come along after that

Things don’t happen overnight
Things don’t cure themselves quickly

God uses process, patience and His perfect love
To help us overcome our own shortcomings

We try to take control when we don’t know his actions
We really try only to come to a dead end

We need to fully commit to handing over the wheel
God wants to be in control of our lives

When this happens, He shows his perfect love
Words can’t describe the feeling, all we know it’s very comforting

God breaks us down at first
To later build us up for His glory

The more we seek him
The more our lives are filled with His love

A love that can only come from him
All we need is Jesus

His Son showed us the way, we just need to follow
The world won’t back away easily

Everyday will bring trials
There will be many ups and downs

Only when we don’t stray from him
Focus our efforts towards home, God’s heavenly home

Can we fully realize God’s love
One day, he will call us Home, his Home!

Amen!

Pondering Thought of the Week : What do I need in this world?

Something that has been on my heart recently

What Do you need in this world?

What do you need in this world
That is a good question

The polite Christian answer is Jesus alone (which is true…read on)
Many roll their eyes and go about their merry way

They state you are crazy
Not sure what you are really talking about

Here is something to think about
Do you ever struggle with something?

Do you have situations you don’t know how to handle?
Are there times in life when things are overwhelming?

Do you get depressed once in a while?
Do you have worries about this or that?

Wouldn’t it be nice to hand your problems, fears and worry to someone who can handle them
Say, here is my worry I don’t know how to handle this

Better yet, I don’t know what to do here
Knowing at the appropriate time the answer will come

Yes, it will take some patience
Think of it as a challenge

This person is big enough to handle anything you can hand him
This person is loves you so much he died for you

Still not convinced?
Ever wonder what’s next

What is beyond this crazy and mixed up world
Too scared to think about it

The two things everyone has in common
Being born and death, no exceptions

It is scary thinking some feel they can handle on their own
The next time something good or bad happens

The next time you are faced with something unknown
Try stating, Jesus, I’m not quite sure here

I don’t know even if I believe all this stuff
I’m willing to open my heart and “try it out”

Please help me in this situation
I don’t even have the words to describe it

I’ve heard you know even if I don’t know how to say it
Sit back and wait to see how things go

When, and yes when the prayer is answered
Give credit where credit is due

This might take a little bit
It might make you feel uncomfortable at first

The answer might not even be what you expected
It will be what you needed though

Then, the next time something comes up
Or a friend has something come up

Try it all over again, say “Jesus”
It’s me again, I have this thing I need some assistance on

Can you come along side of me and help out
I really appreciate being able to help in areas I can’t

It’s real easy to get to know him
He’s the one knocking at the door

Just state “Come on in Jesus”
Please take over in the drivers seat

I don’t like tackling this crazy world alone
Since I hear you conquered death

I figure you can conquer anything that is in my life
Before you know it, you’ll realize Jesus is all you need!

Amen!

Story behind the Story

This has been on my heart for a while.  I have a few things that I’m not sure how to handle and glad I can hand them off to my Savior Jesus Christ.  The one you heard about that conquered death.   I see so much negative stuff in the news, non-believers, it makes my heart just ache.  I do see bright spots people turning their life over to Jesus.  The words in a recent prayer goes something like this  “LORD, please reveal yourself in ways they can understand you are there for them”

Pondering Thought of the Week : Attacked poem

Title:
Attacked

Scripture:
James 1:26, Matthew 11:30

Story behind the Story
One Sunday at GCC, a video was played introducing a new ministry called People Restore.  It was presented by a man who mentioned the ministry was to help people restore their faith back to Jesus.  There was “hiccups, hurts and hang-ups”.  Every person who walks with Jesus has these and to varying degrees, can interfere in their life.  The mission was to take back others who have been distracted.  I was moved and seemed to connect with the key people in the ministry.  I mentioned the stories God has blessed me with and seemed to be a place to share with others.  I’m not certain the outcome or how involved I will be personally, it seems like a next step and I wanted to be involved.  We were at a bible study and the same person who introduced the ministry, asked for prayer mentioning they were under attack since announcing the ministry.  God laid on my heart the word “Attacked” and the first sentence / phrase used in this story.  We also had just studied the scripture in our small group.

Story

Have you ever felt like every time you turn around? There is something seemly in your way.  No matter how much you prepare. No matter how much you plan. Something always seems to get in the way. Every obstacle appears to get larger and more difficult, It’s like a person is having fun watching you stumble. Roadblocks are put up everywhere. You work through one really hard roadblock, another pothole comes along out of no where. Finally, things appear to have calmed down and another larger pothole appears suddenly. After a few battles that appear to impact the overall plan. Anxiety, Worry and uncertainty rule the day. It seems the harder you work, the harder the task at hand becomes. Nothing is easy although the task is rewarding. It requires a lot of mental heavy lifting. Up until this point, you have kept it contained and the journey has been great.  Then you widen the effort to include many others.  The battles become larger and more difficult.  You’ve entered the arena of many thousands now. The goal is no longer contained, the idea becomes shared with others. The attacks are more wide spread impacting many others Who are engaged in the battle. The enemy has drawn the battle lines. The efforts are to restore souls. The efforts are to repair hearts and turn them back north, North to God, his son Jesus and Holy Spirit. The enemy has made it clear every soul will be a battle. Nothing will be easy, Nothing will be calm. There will be bumps, potholes and obstacles along the way. Not a moments rest, Not a moments peace. Scripture tells us to endure the journey. Take refuge in the Son for his yoke is light. There will be peaks and valleys, endure everyday with hope provided from above. Keep it simple, take care of orphans and widows, do not become part of this world. An orphan can be a child. It can be an middle aged person struggle with addiction or even an older person lost in their way. Each orphan has their own unique story.  God wants all of his “children” to know he loves them and wants to see them come to him with their hearts open. God will restore hope from their hurts, God will help overcome their habits and even when we have hang-ups from time to time, he’ll be there loving us unconditionally. The good book says One day you will hang with him in his house, forever. What a comforting feeling knowing we are loved by such a great creator. This single hope helps us endure the journey filled with Hurts, Hiccups and Hang-ups.

Pondering Thought of the Week : God Sense is the sixth sense

Title:
God Sense

Story behind the story:

This story was inspired by the book “Heaven is for Real”.  I’ve read 90 minutes in Heaven, 23 minutes in Hell and this book. These are my three books to give to non-believers.  I struggle with non-believers or those resistant to accepting Jesus as their savior.  There were many examples in each of these books that convince me.  Between my own experience writing stories, I know God is real.  I can’t explain it, but I know.  I struggle in the world today with so many distractions, devices from making life simple.  The simple things this little boy described only confirm my beliefs. I have three boys and can relate to how little boys describe things so “matter of fact”.  I wish my poems were as simple as this book. Smile  God has confirmed the words in stories like this are “The words he gave me to share with everyone”.  I’ll keep sharing lol!

Story:

When you can see, smell, taste, hear or touch something. We know it’s real, we have earthly evidence.  God gave us five senses to use. There is a sixth sense not talked about much. It’s Gods sense although we can’t see it like other senses. A majority of people in the world today don’t want to humble themselves to acquire this sixth sense.  It takes God talking through little children to show us God’s world is real simple.

We have theologians, professors and smart people alike trying to explain God’s word. If we worked as hard trying to obey His words as we did trying to explain or avoid them.  Our world would be a different place, I’m sure of that.  The closer I grow to Jesus, the more my heart hurts I can’t physically force or mentally persuade a single individual into accepting Jesus.  It’s only a choice a person can make themselves.  This has to be between them and God.

A three or four year old can plainly state Jesus loves you without pretense, without judgment, without wanting something in return. This is pure, real love.  Only when we plug into the sixth sense do we start to discover what real life is meant to be. Man doesn’t have all the answers. When we try to explain and state we have the answers, pride sets in. Pride is plainly wrong, not something God approves of. Here’s the crux, loving Jesus is simple, we make it hard. From man’s perspective, we don’t want follow his ways. We are such selfish creatures.

When we are little, we are unselfish, we are real. As people get older, they become less real and jaded by the world. No one is old in heaven, they are young. I’ve not seen this for myself, but a little pure one says so.  I have faith, Jesus exists, and God exists.  I don’t have all the answers. This will convince some that I’m crazy and believing something that isn’t real. When you plug into the God sense, you see things different, really different. For now, we have a choice to make, chose our own path, or God’s path.  From others witness and my own experience I have chosen God’s path.  There are many unknowns to come, we do know the final outcome, God wins. This doesn’t stop the enemy from trying to wreak things along the way. Guard your heart, your pure God loving heart; it’s worth it in the end.  When things get tough, seek God’s wisdom.  HE is listening waiting for his children to plug into the God Sense.

Pondering Thought of the Week : EveryDay Porneia

This story was written after reading a book by Mark Driscoll and his wife.

Poem

Everyday Porneia

Modesty has taken a back seat
Showing more and more

What is displayed for everyone to see
Is expected to be shared by some

In the world today, Porneia is available almost everywhere
It’s in books, on billboards, commercials and online

The appearance is subtle, not revealing everything at once
Little here, little there showing something forbidden

Porneia generates an interest for its observers
The observers are really victims; they just don’t know it yet

Sensations are increased temporarily
The long term affects are devastating

Porneia is relentless, we are wired to react
When we see something that looks nice, we react

Men are wired visually by design
It only takes a glance, a brief look to be engaged

A brief high seems so innocent
It makes the person feel good

The images seen stay much longer mentally
This can wire the brain differently than God intended

The definition of beauty starts to change and become confusing
We start comparing every possible situation to what we have

Everything starts to get bland
We get bored with normal and seek other avenues

Porneia is appealing, yet so addictive
Even a glance is too damaging to risk

*God intended us to be attracted to our spouses
*After marriage, these feeling should grow very intense

Physically, emotionally and spiritually
All senses are enhanced from the love we feel for our spouse

God intended our spouse is our definition of beauty, nothing else
The world today has twisted this particular fact so much

No one knows what the standard of beauty is supposed to be
Porneia intention is to lure someone into its grip

Get them addicted to something they can’t have
Change their heart and turn away from everything else

The images portrayed kill its victim in a different way
They become desensitized to most everything

The enemy twists God’s perfect design
Many, many are impacted by its effects

The words in Songs of Solomon are God’s design
The world has taken this design and altered beyond recognition

Extraordinary measures have to be taken
To overcome the effects that has taken years to accumulate

We need to display extreme repentance to our Lord and Savior
For only He has the Grace and Mercy to overcome anything

Porneia is God’s design twisted, plain and simple
To undo its effects needs God’s power

Nothing man made can overcome it, we are not strong enough
God, we need your power to help overcome the misuse of your perfect creation

Story behind the Story

Pondering Thought of the Week : Peaceful Servant

This story was written after spending a weekend at “The Shack”

Poem

The Peaceful Servant

Ever been to a place where time forgot
It is so peaceful yet beautifully modern

Master works of art everywhere
Including the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus

Lots of crosses, books and pictures
One of kinds is there too

There are other rare items
Quality made with values long since gone

Some are so rare, only a few are left on earth
When you view them, you know they are good

The serene view is breath taking
The water is calm, not a ripple about

Everywhere is God’s handy work
The workers are just here to assist

God is in-charge over every detail
You can sense his mere presence

When you are a servant of God
You desire nothing else but his love

The calm you feel is almost surreal
The stresses of the day just slip away

You just sit about for a spell
Talking with friends and family

You reconnect with them, the batteries are recharged
At the same time, the Holy Spirit is hovering too

His presence assists us on earth
Providing peace and guidance

When you connect with God and do his work
Your soul becomes so peaceful

Other desires, hopes and dreams
Slip away never to return

Thank you God for spots like this
Where we can connect with you, family and friends

One day we’ll stand in heaven in your presence

Enjoying your eternal peace and wonders!

Story behind the Story

I wrote this story while spending a weekend getaway with my wife, family and friends. The Shack is anything but a ‘shack’, it’s a beautiful place in Jugville MI USA. if you ever have a chance to visit, I strongly encourage it!

Pondering Thought of the Week : Big God

Here is a story written while at the FUEL conference in Louisville Kentucky.

Big God

You are a Big God
Bigger than anything or anyone

No one can fathom
Your size, nor your thoughts

You are sovereign
You created us with free will

God, in a few months
8000+ will ascend in your name

They will be seeking something
Many are not sure of what

Some will come down from the North
Others from the South, East and West

Their minds will be like clay
They need something to influence them

They will need someone to shape their thoughts
Some will realize you sooner than others

Some will be guided by your helpers and teachers
Please inspire your helpers to guide these young minds

The helpers, guides and teachers alike
Seek your truth, guidance and wisdom

These 8000+ can influence the next generation
We ask and pray your bigness to show

We ask for your bigness to guide, and eventually lead
Others to your son Jesus

This will be a huge event, not as big as you
We all know, you are a big God

Wanting to do Big things in everyone’s life
Go Big, and eventually Go Home to your Big House!

Amen!

Story behind the story

Big God came into my mind while being shown a large arena for the F12 conference in Louisville KY. The conference will be attended by high school teenagers. One of the leaders was describing various activities and where they will be hosted in the convention center. The building is 140k square feet. The building is big, the effort to get the conference up and going is big, and the goals are really big! They asked us to pray for the upcoming conference locations. I sat down and wrote this story. I hope this inspires the leaders, teachers and most of all the students attending the conference
